THE TECHNOLOGY

The excimer laser used is amongst the most advanced technology available in the UK. This laser includes state-of-the-art "flying spot" technology which creates a smoother surface for treated areas than previous generation lasers, which aims to reduce the recovery period. Unlike older fixed broad beamed lasers, this new generation laser system treats a larger area of the cornea so reducing the likelihood of problems with night vision.

The laser system is also fitted with an "active eye tracker" which detects eye movements and automatically disables the system if the patient's eye moves too much during the procedure. An Orbscan is used prior to treatment to evaluate the corneal thickness and create a 3 dimensional map of the cornea, vital to ensure the accuracy of your treatment. Microkeratome equipment (the Bausch & Lomb Hansatome) is also used in the treatment to create the ultra-thin corneal flap.
